WELCOME TO THE MARINE MICROBIAL ECOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP AT SWANSEA UNIVERSITY

We explore microbial interactions in marine ecosystems, with a focus on the complex relationships that shape coastal and pelagic environments. Our research investigates the microalgal holobiont (microalgae and their microbiome), the seagrass microbiome, and the plastisphere (microbial communities associated with marine microplastic). We employ molecular tools, high-throughput screening, -omics technologies, and bioinformatics to uncover the molecular mechanisms driving the structure and function of these microbial communities. This knowledge underpins our search for novel, sustainable solutions with relevance to ecology, biotechnology, and marine conservation.

Our work contributes to the Natural Products BioHUB at Swansea University.

We appreciate the financial support of our work by the European Innovation Council, Innovate UK, BBSRC, EPSRC, Greatest Need Fund and SCoRE Cymru.
